Success for Moss Institute in 2010

2010 will go down as a very successful year for the Moss Institute and all the riders under the guidance of Greg Moss with 3 junior Australian championships and 2 Senior National Supercross championships to go along with a multitude of State and local podium results.

Moss institute junior riders Hunter Lawrence, Mitchell Evens and Meghan Rutledge all took home championship trophies in their respective classes at the Australian junior Motocross championships.

Meghan once again proving she is the fastest junior female rider in Australia at the moment by winning the 13-u16 class at the Honda Australia Junior Motocross championship, and it is not only the female racers she is leaving her wake, Meghan is the only female rider who contested the 2010 Junior SuperX championships and with two rounds remaining was second 7th overall in a super talented field, before some bad luck struck in the final two rounds.

Meghan’s achievements have not gone unnoticed outside the inner sanctum of the dirt bike world, as she also was recognised by the Macarthur Chronicle newspaper, picking up the junior sports star award and also received a scholarship from the Layne Beachley ‘Aim for the stars’ foundation.

“I've had the greatest year achieving all the goals that I had set myself. During this year I was awarded the Macarthur Chronicle junior sports star 'Young Achiever' and received a Scholarship from the Layne Beachley 'Aim for the Stars' foundation “said a very proud Meghan

“The biggest highlight of my year was my second place in the 13-14yrs 250cc class against the boys in the NSW State Titles, putting me on the podium for all 3 classes that I competed in for this event.”

Mitchell Evens had a year he will not forget any time soon, 2010 seen Mitchell not only travel Australia, he was part of Australia’s successful Oceania Motocross team which travelled to New Zealand with Mitchell taking home 3rd overall in the 65cc 10-12years class.

The KTM mounted Mitchell then travelled further abroad as a member of the Australian Junior Motocross team that travelled to Gueugnon France with his 6th place overall finish in the 65cc 10-12 years class helping Australia to 3rd overall in the world Championship.

“With the guidance and support from Moss Institute and my own family I have achieved great results in 2010”

Mitchell went on to say

“I am grateful for everything they have done for me and I thank them for allowing me these opportunities.”

Hunter Lawrence had a great year of growth on and of the track durnig 2010 winning both an Australian and New Zealand National title to go along side two other very impressive top four resutls at the Auatralian Junior Motocross Nationals. Hunter more than enjoyed his 2010 season saying

“I have had a ball racing this year and the battles I have had along the way with my competition have been challenging and awesome”

Like all other riders involved in with the Moss Institute Hunter  attributes a lot of his success to both his dad and Greg Moss who has shown both rider and parent the techniques and information they need to be successful on and off the track.

“I would like to thank my dad who has been coached himself on techniques and exercises through the Moss Institute, withough Greg Moss and my Dad helping me it would have been hard to achieve my dreams and goals on a national level.

Senior riders

Kale gave the Moss Institute more international success in 2010 by heading over to Indonesia and racing the Indonesian Supercross series. Kale rode through some of the worst conditions he had ever encountered to win the Championship.

Along with his international success Kale also had a great result at a state level in his first year in the senior ranks, winning overall Under 19s class at the Victorian state titles.

“Moss Institute has helped me tremendously over the past 5 years and I can't thank them enough, I believe with the knowledge and experience Greg has to offer and the dedication from me together we can reach any level in the sport”

Joining Kale in a full on assault on the National under 19s MX Championship will be a rider who is a relatively new addition to the Moss Institute. South Australian based rider Mitchell Norris had a great start to his senior racing career by winning the South Australian Lites state championship in his first attempt.

“The coaching from Greg Moss this year has been awesome and has completely changed me as a rider and I would not be where I am as a rider without his help.”

Mitchell will join the JDR Moss Institute team aboard a RMZ250 again looking forward to riding under the Moss Institute banner in 2011 stating

“I am super excited about being on the Josh Dunstall Racing / Moss Institute race team in 2011, we have some strong riders and with both Greg and Josh’s support it is going to be an awesome year”

Mat Moss after a tough start to the 2010 Monster Energy SuperX series rebounded with performances we have come to expect from Australia’s 2 time and current Supercross Lites championship holder, with a charge at the end of the season that seen him take a slender 5 point lead into the final round  for the season.

The final round would throw up all sorts of challenges no more challenging than water logged track that would take every bit of determination and skill just to get around. In true Moss fashion Mat wore his heart on his sleeve and going into the final moto of the year tied on points with American PJ Larsen came through for second position one spot ahead of PJ in third and wrapped up another Australian title on the night, though a Protest against Matt has the final result up in the air, if it falls in favour of Matt he will officially capture his third straight Lites Australian Supercross title.

“Ive struggled with a bad wrist all year, I have just had it operated on now the championship is over so im just looking forward to next season now and working with Dad and the Team”

Jake Moss returned from a tough year on the AMA circuit looking to find the confidence that had just 12 months earlier seen him leading races back in the USA. Jake took a little while to find his stride but by the time the season came to a close things were back where they should have been for the Suzuki mounted rider, winning the overall at the second to last round at Parramatta.

“I came back from the USA a little tight wanting to show my speed and things didn’t start to well, I was tenth after the first 2 rounds, so I settled and rode for a podium and was glad to be there by the end”

Greg Moss as always is very happy with the way his team riders rode in 2010, and once again was impressed with the way the families of his riders committed to the season and achieving the results the team was chasing.

Greg stated “Every rider but Jake won a title but he managed 3rd in the open class at SuperX so results wise I am stoked”

He went on to say

“ The maturity of our juniors and commitment of their families is second to none, so I am stoked with that also.”

Greg now faces the yearly reality of seeing his young charges move onto factory riders or rides from strongly supported teams

“Again we will have factories chasing these riders so if we lose any as we do most years with the offer of free bikes etc, so we will look for a committed family and build another champion, that’s what Moss Institute has done for 15 years now so nothing will change.”
